The Academy's first major fundraising event - "Are You Smarter Than a 6th Grader? " was a tremendous success!

On the evening of October 16, 2010, 800 people came to Goucher College to witness a fierce competition on stage between 6 teams of Sister Academy 6th graders - The Brainiacs (led by Rod Daniels), The Rocket Scientists (led by Debbie Phelps), The Know It Alls (led by Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake), The Smartie Pants (led by David Simon), The Einsteins (led by Carla Hayden), and The Wise Guys (led by Marc Steiner).

In the end, The Smartie Pants prevailed and captured "The Cavanaugh Cup." "The MVP Award" went to The Rocket Scientists, and The Wise Guys received "The Pledge Winners Award." With the help of our very funny MC, Bill McCuddy, the audience did a lot of laughing as they tried to answer math, science, literature, social studies, spelling, geopgraphy, language arts, history, art, and music questions for themselves. It wasn't easy!

To our wonderful celebrity contestants, event sponsors, program advertisers, ticket buyers, and folks who pledged for a team, we say THANK YOU! Because of you, we met our goal of raising $50,000 to help educate students at our tuition-free middle school. And, we made many new friends from all over Baltimore.
